OCTOBER READS

I didn't get to everything that I meant to, partly because one of the books I read didn't work as well for me as I wanted it to, but I still had a nice month with some good reads.

1. Tress of the Emerald Sea

This was a 4/5 romp with lots of heart

I won't pretend that this is the best Sanderson book I've ever read, I had a lot of fun with this nautical adventure, it's strange world, and the endearing protagonist that we follow. Yes, Wit's narration can be a bit much, but I didn't mind the story's silliness and I rather enjoyed getting to know Hoid a bit better.

2. Bone Shroud

4/5 for a worthwhile sequel to Deathless Beast

Fans of the first book are sure to enjoy this one as well. While I still prefer more narrative-focused books, I just love the characters in this series, the way faith is handled, and the subtle plotting that Meredith juggles with all the character moments and sprinkled-in action scenes.

3. Skyborn

A decently fun 3/5 read

I didn't enjoy every aspect as much as I wanted to and am not too inclined to continue the trilogy, but I am glad that I finally got to this book that's been sitting on my shelf for literal years. I had a decent amount of fun with the compelling world and exciting action.

BONUS: Beta Reading

While it wouldn't be right to mention the working title, book premise, author, or what I'd rate the book if it was published, I figured I would add that I got a chance to do a beta read for an aspiring author. It took me far to long to read her book, but I'm glad to have gone through the experience of doing a Beta read, especially since I'd like to review work done by a friend of mine soon. It was fun to chat with the author about my thoughts and suggestions. I don't know what impact that will ultimately have on the final piece, but hopefully the feedback will help her in some way.

Going into November, I will have a lot going on at work and with preparing for the end-of-year holidays, so I am not sure how much I will really get to, but I have a fun buddy read planned along with a couple other books I hope I will love.
